Sex offenders in a place you may have overlooked and the dangerous loophole NEWS 25 is exposing
There's a law that's supposed to keep sex offenders from living at least a thousand feet away from schools, parks and youth centers. But NEWS 25 uncovers there are *no* laws against predators getting close to a place your kids gather every day, a place you might have overlooked. But we didn't.
In this NEWS 25 alert, we map out one of these danger zones and cross reference it with the addresses of sex offenders. What we find surprises even us! "Within one city block from where I'm standing live five sex offenders, all of them convicted of child molestation," says NEWS 25's Courtney Fischer.
Map in hand, we knocked on the doors of as many sex offenders as we could living in one area where kids gather away from school. One we tracked down issued his own strong warning: "With most sex offenders I would say yeah, they should be worried," he said. "Because a lot of sex offenders don't have any remorse or consideration for what they've done to children."

Another sex offender we caught up with claimed he was no longer a threat, but then he asked us to turn our camera off before finally slamming the door in our face.
Our investigation was eye opening to families living in the area. "It makes me real nervous," says James Smith. "We were really surprised how many we have in the neighborhood.
